Volunteer with our organization

Volunteerism is the concept that made the creation of Ngerengere River Eco Camp possible. Due to lack of financial means, all projects rely on motivated people eager to contribute ideas, skills and hard work. Most of these volunteers are local friends that, regardless of their own difficulties, were willing to spare time for a good cause. Cultural exchange is also paramount in our philosophy. This phenomenon enables exchange of ideas, new global social networks and new horizons for both parties.

PLACEMENTS

Volunteers can join all our projects such as assisting in teaching at our Happy Bricks Primary School, planting trees, joining new construction sites at our Camp or supporting us in water and healthcare projects. Please contact us to find out which activities will be needed at the time you want to come.

Volunteers can get a deep insight into Tanzanian rural lifestyles with all the typical food, cultural traditions and contact to the villagers. Several university students used the opportunity as well and gained experiences and knowledge during their internships in our organization.

Project initiators are also important for us! Project proposals need to be related to either education, environmental sustainability or income-generating activites. Funds to initiate a new project need to be raised by the volunteer.

ACCOMODATION

You will be accommodated at our Eco Camp, where you can stay with our local team and maybe with other
guests or volunteers from all over the world. Eco Camp is the center of our organization.

It is possible to stay in an Eco Camp house alone, as a couple or in groups up to eight people. All beds are equipped with mosquito nets. Each house is built of natural materials and has its private bathroom with a typical Tanzanian shower.

ACTIVITIES AROUND ECO CAMP

In case you may want to fill your free time with some activities in and around the camp, you are welcome to book one of our workshops, which you can check here. We especially recommend the Kiswahili language course for volunteers who are interested to communicate and interact directly with the locals.

In your weekends you are free to do trips to the amazing areas surrounding Eco Camp - if you feel to do so! You may like to experience a safari to a nearby National Park, do some hiking in the Mountains or spend a day in the next big city called Morogoro. Find more details about these possible trips here under the section of activities.

FOOD

We will serve you three typical Tanzanian meals per day. Our delicious, organic food is freshly cooked and we try to use fruits and vegetables from our own garden during the season. If you are vegetarian or vegan, we offer suitable food for you. If you want to learn some Tanzanian cooking, feel free to join our kitchen team.

FEES

Volunteers have to cover the costs of their stay at Eco Camp themselves. Therefore, we require a basic fee for food and accomodation. Since this fee depend on the duration of your stay and the number of volunteers, you are welcome to make a price inquiry. Additional costs depending on extras such as airport pickups, workshops and trips. We will happily get back to you with an offer tailored to your needs.

SERVICES

Thanks to our solar powered electricity, your technical devices can be charged and lights can be used at night. There is internet access in some areas of Eco Camp. It is not very stable, but receiving and sending messages is possible.

We offer pickups from the Julius Nyerere International Airport or from the ferry coming from Zanzibar in Dar es Salaam. You can choose according to your preference and financial situation: Either an Eco Camp staff member can pick you up and you can both use a pulic bus up to Bwawani. Or we may pick you with our private Eco Camp car.

All details for your internship or volunteering experience can be worked out together with us. Please feel free to contact us for this. You are very much welcomed to our Ngerengere River Eco Camp!
