Beehives around Eco Camp
Beekeeping is a great strategy to create alternative means of income while respecting and working with nature!
We established 40 beehives around our Eco Camp and we are continuously assessing its progress for further improvement. We are facing the following challenges:
- Irregular bee population; occasionally bees abandon the hives.
- Season of harvesting is not clear.
- Honey production was less than what could be expected from a mature colony. We harvested five liters of honey from one beehive although usually they produce 10 to 20 liters of honey.
We are looking for volunteers with expertise in beekeeping to make this project efficient. We need more information on how to attract bees, improve beehives, move bees from one beehive to another and introduce bee friendly plants.
