Establishment of Ngerengere River Eco Camp

Ngerengere River Eco Camp started in 2006 as an initiative of Mr. Remigius Mushenga in association with local volunteers and organizations. In 2009, we became a registered, social enterprise (No. 189625).

 

REMIGIUS MUSHENGA - FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

It is not possible to describe Ngerengere River Eco Camp without mentioning its founder and director Mr. Remigius Mushenga (called Remmy by most people). Raised in poor conditions in rural Nothern Tanzania, he faced similar economic difficulties as people in Lukwambe.
In the past, he has been involved in many social community projects:

  • Founding a pharmacy in Bwawani with his wife in 1986
  • Establishing an unregestered NGO called ARCNI (Association for Rural Children Nutrition Improvement) between 1987 and 1999
  • Working as a secretary in the Wildlife Management Area of the National Park Wami Mbiki from 2002 to 2008
  • Starting the construction of Ngerengere River Eco Camp and launching the first project Sustainable Charcoal Production in 2006
